The novelty is wearing off….
I had a dream last night that I was chasing a bird in the back yard, dad says my feet were moving at breakneck speed. I was steps away from catching him, and then I woke up. As my eyes opened, I glanced down to be reminded of what had happened to me. Man what a bummer! The pain is manageable with my meds, but I am having a hard time adjusting to my new tripawdness. Dad can barely get me to go outside to potty every 12 hours or so. I’ve been eating like a queen and drinking plenty of water, just not feeling motivated to get up. Dad seems a little worried about me, and has been spoiling me rotten. If there is a silver lining to this whole thing is I get to hang out with dad all day long sleep on his bed, and getting loved on 24/7.
It’s kind of depressing watching my little brother running around like a mad man, and I can’t even motivate myself to get out of bed. Dad says I need to just chill for a few weeks, but that’s never been my style. I’m trying my best to keep a positive attitude, but this morning I just feel like moping. Dad’s been reading me all the wonderful comments that have been coming in, and that definitely makes me feel better, thank you all.
All this blogging is making me exhausted. so I;m going to take another nap now. Hopefully when I wake up I’ll be in a better mood.

It really does take time to feel better. The meds have something to do with this. Be patient, the rest is good for the healing process. When we were going through this last summer with Nitro, we spent a lot of time just chilling outside in the sun. Before you know it, Skittles will be up and about.

I am starting to worry that she still hasn’t taken a poop. I gave her some pumpkin with dinner last night. She will only go outside about every 12 hours and only pee’s. She has been eating and drinking just fine, and I can see it is difficult to get comfortable squatting. Is there anything else I can do to help “move” things along?

Ellie is a rear amp so it is probably a bit different, but learning and getting coordinated for peeing and pooing took time. You might need to help keep her clean while she’s practicing. As to the constipation, just like with humans a lot of the meds are constipating. I think you just have to be patient. One problem w/ hurrying things along is if you overdo it and she gets the runs. Ellie got the runs after surgery and she struggled so much, hopping around, trying to squat but not having the strength to squat long enough to get it all out. It was really pathetic.

Thanks for the great advice, I am trying my best to let her do things at her own pace. I am just being an overprotective worry wart I’m sure. I just got off the phone with her vet and she said Skittles will go when she really has to. She is eating everything I give her, so it’s gotta be coming soon. I guess I will wait for her to ready on her own. Hopefully the pain pills are not making her constipated.

Ellie is doing well, thanks! She’s almost 7.5 months post-amp. She had only that one episode when she was still pretty weak (thankfully)! She didn’t have any problems w/ it from the chemo. You’ll be surprised how happy you are when she poos that first time. We were all over her telling her what a good dog she was!

HI dad- yes, I think only parents of toddlers talk more about poop than this group! My little pug Maggie was stubborn about everything after her amp, including pooping. She didn’t go until day 5 or 6. Over in the forums we celebrate everything, including first pee and poop!
