Trying to adjust

Posted on April 27th, 2015 in Uncategorized by skittlesdad

I am so happy to be home, I almost forgot I just had a major surgery. Dad put his mattress on the floor so it would be easy for me to get on, and you know that I took full advantage of that! I curled up right next to him and nuzzled my head on his belly. This is soooo much better than the vets! I really wanted to lick my wound, but wouldn’t you know it, that’s the only spot on my body I can’t reach. So I did the next best thing and licked dad’s blanket for an hour or so. I think he thought that I peed in the bed I left such a soaking. I thought that was funny, but dad didn’t see the humor in it at the time.

Once I got my 1 am pills , it was lights out for me. I don’t think dad got much sleep though, it seemed like he was worried about me and watching over me most of the night. Just for sh**’s and giggles I picked 3:30 am to have to go potty, dad was so amused 😉  I still have not pooped yet, it’s hard to balance and squeeze  ( it’s a dog thing, you wouldn’t understand ). Hopefully today my balance will get better, it’s still going to take me a while to get used to my new Tripawdness. Dad seems more concerned about it than me, but when the turtle starts poking its head out I’m gonna go!

Today has been really chill, just lounging around and getting loved on. My little brother Adolf has been keeping me company, and helping dad take care of me. I sure wish my Mom and bratty sister were here too, I miss them a lot. Dad said I can see mom in a few days, but it’s going to be a while before they let me see Snickers.

Dad read me all the kind and wonderful comments people sent in, and I just wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart  for all your support and well wishes. It is making my recovery so much better knowing that there is all this love and support coming in from others who have had to go through this. I know it’s helped dad emencly, so again, thanks from both of us.

Dad just brought out the turkey, must be time for my pill. ( he thinks I don’t know what he’s doing, lol )

Xoxo, Skittles

Oh Skittles! I just love reading your posts! They…and you…are delightful!!

So glad things are going so well! My Happy Hannah certainly had a much “less smooth” recovery! I think the first three or four days she and I got avout five hours sleep between the two of us!

Get your dad to get you a spoonful of pumpkin. It helps get the pooping going a little bit. It kind of makes a nice side dish with your turkey, don’t ya’ think?

Keep thse great updates coming. Some vets say it takes about two weeks to recover from the surgery itself, and about thirty days to get mobility, joints, muscles, etc. worked out. Most dogs here have a little head start practicing on three legs before surgery. Unfortunately, it’s because most were limping some first before the diagnosis of that piece of crap disease was determined.

But you seem to javr already adjusted at a rapid fire pace! Take it slowly, but we can’t wait to see you rocking out on three legs!

    Thanks for the smiles today!

    Hugs to all!

Thanks for the great advice! Dad said he’s going to get me some pumpkin, hopefully that’ll help me take a poop 😉
For now, I think I will take another nap, love sleeping on dad’s bed.

Sounds like you are doing ok Skittles. I also took my bed off the frame fro Sassy to get onto the bed easier. You will probably be sore for a little while and getting used to those muscles you really didn’t have to use before.

Some people do find physical therapy to help build those core muscles that Tripawds need to use. So maybe after you heal your dad or mom can check into that for you.
